Heating

Signs your furnace needs repair

  • No heat, or air that never gets warm
  • The furnace starts, runs a minute or two, then shuts off
  • The burners light but the blower never comes on
  • Banging, squealing, or rattling at startup
  • Heating bills climbing with no change in the weather
  • The thermostat calls for heat and nothing happens

Three things to check before you call

  • Thermostat set to Heat, and set a few degrees above room temperature? Try fresh batteries.
  • Furnace power switch on? It looks like a light switch on or near the furnace. Check the breaker too.
  • Pull the filter. If you can't see light through it, swap it. A clogged filter can make a furnace shut itself off.

Checked those and it’s still acting up? Call or text (573) 797-5242.

What usually causes it

Dirty flame sensor

The burners light, then shut off within seconds. The sensor can't confirm the flame, so the furnace stops the gas as a safety measure.

Failed igniter

You hear the furnace try to start, but the burners never light. Igniters wear out and crack over time.

Clogged filter or blocked airflow

The furnace overheats, trips its high-limit switch, and shuts down before the house is warm.

Blower motor or capacitor

The burners run but little or no air comes out of the vents, or the blower hums without spinning.

Pressure switch or inducer motor

The furnace won't begin its start-up sequence, often with a blinking error code on the control board.

Thermostat or control board

The furnace never gets the signal to run, or runs at the wrong times.

Repair or replace?

Most furnace problems are repairs, not replacements. As a rough rule, if the furnace is 12 to 15 years old and facing a major repair, it's worth comparing a replacement quote before you spend on the repair. We do both.

Questions

Fair questions, straight answers.

Do you offer same-day furnace repair?

Yes. Same-day service is available seven days a week. The earlier you reach out, the earlier we can get to you.

Is it safe to keep running a furnace that keeps shutting off?

A furnace that shuts itself off is usually protecting itself. Resetting it over and over can make the problem worse. Check the filter, and if it keeps happening, turn it off and call.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the house first. Call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Then call us.

Is the repair covered by a warranty?

Every repair we do carries a 90-day labor warranty. If our work isn't right, we come back and make it right.
